Château les Pâques is located in Braud and Saint Louis within the appellation 'Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Gironde Estuary, approximately 60 km North of Bordeaux.

Our vines are planted on multiple plots with separate terroirs. The plots with sandy soils allow us to produce a very fruity and fresh dry white wine and they give a pleasant red fruit character to our red wines. Whereas the clay and limestone based soils on the other plots allow us to produce more full-bodied red wines with a very good aging potential.

 

Château les Pâques has belonged to the Martin family for several generations. The viticulture expertise in the family extends back to the nineteenth century. Like many at that time, it was a small-holding based in mixed farming land, including vines. However, when Yvan and Claudette Martin took over, the usage started to change. They increased the area of the vineyard area by 12 hectares. In 1970 they also changed part of the vineyard by replacing the Ugni Blanc and Colombard white grape varieties with red grapes such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1982, they began to produce the first bottles of 'AOC Bordeaux' and '1ères Côtes de Blaye'.

Bruno and Marie-Cécile Martin then continued the transformation of the vineyard by planting the entire vineyard with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc and thus transforming the winery. At that time, the vineyard covered 22 hectares.

In recent years Bruno and Marie-Cécile have bought a further 10 hectares of vines to achieve today a total area of ​​32 hectares.

From the 2008 vintage, the 1st AOC Côtes de Blaye, became 'Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. However only the name has changed, the wineries and their wines remain the same or are developing.
